Causes of back pain in young people

The causes of back pain in young people(under 35) are basically accidents, falls or lifting heavy objects if it is acute pain. However, if the pain lasts longer than 3 months, it may be due to an injury that should be investigated.

In the youngest, school furniture and backpacks are the main enemy and to correct this it is necessary to adapt it to the age and size of the person using it. On the other hand, there are diseases related to this discomfort, but overweight and lack of exercise are the most common causes.

In industrialized countries, back pain is the leading cause of absenteeism in even the youngest worker populations. Health statistics affirm that three out of every four people have suffered intense back pain, causing work-related disability, and that the population permanently interrupts their professional activity.

In the work environment, pain is mainly caused by:

  • Adoption of inappropriate postures.
  • Bad handling of loads in daily work.
  • Repetitive movements.

In addition to mechanical factors, psychosocial factors also influence the manifestation of pain. Among them are:

  • Stress.
  • Psychosomatic disorders.
  • Job dissatisfaction.
  • Decrease in physical activity.

This can be avoided with a healthy lifestyle,education on posture and ergonomics, regular exercise and maintenance exercises. These recommendations are not only for those tasks that require physical effort, but also include jobs that require standing all day or sitting at a desk.

Having a bad posture has as a consequence the accentuation of curves, reduction of mobility, and loss of elasticity. That is why the spine needs specific exercises to compensate for the negative effects of a sedentary life.
